History: Aerith Gainsborough was born the daughter of a young, idealistic Jedi and a man of questionable repute who had once sold his life and work to the industrial ShinRa, Inc. the company that all but ruled system of Midgar nestled in the heart of the Chronos Cluster. On a mission in said sector, the Jedi Master found herself caught in a clever trap. Taking great measures to secure a Jedi of Ifalna Gainsborough’s caliber, ShinRa managed to hold the woman prisoner for some time perhaps thinking to offer her to the Sith as a sign of good will due to the Dark Jedi’s recent excursion to their system in search of rare materials. However, it was by the hand of a sympathetic employee under their own noses, a scientist and researcher who couldn’t stand to see anyone kept like a lab rat or bargaining tool, that young Clive Gast began to spend time with the Jedi woman, fearful at first that she would be able to use her powers on him in order to esscape. Sensing in Clive a good heart, Ifalna eventually, against her better judgment and the call of her kind, felt strong feelings begin to develop for the man. The feelings were of course mutual, and it was because of this bond that the young researcher eventually aided Ifalna in her escape. The two fled ShinRa, bounding from planet to planet and never staying in the same place twice. It was when ShinRa and its armies eventually caught up with the pair that they were overwhelmed. Gast was shot dead for his treachery and Iflana, now with child, escaped, barely able to pull herself away from the battle scene without collapsing. It was through the will of the Force that the Jedi was guided into the arms of a kind and warm-hearted widow named Elmyra Lenaldo, who cared for her until the birth of her daughter, promptly named Aerith. Though Iflana died shortly after giving birth, Elmyra promised to raise her Aerith as her own not knowing the least of what she was getting into.
Aerith grew and was clearly a talkative child. She loved to have long conversations about anything at all, and scarcely seemed to have down days. Though her spunk perhaps made her a bit difficult to deal with, she was a sweet and caring child at heart with a fierce devotion to both her birth mother’s memory and the woman who raised her. She kept a stone passed on by Ifalna as testimony to her mother’s sacrifice, completely oblivious to the fact that it was, indeed, a legendary kaiburr crystal, an artifact sought after by Jedi and Sith alike. Aerith never mourned her mother’s passing, strangely, claiming openly to her adopted mother that she could see her mother sometimes, and that her mother had become one with the Force, even if she didn’t entirely understand the matter and mature of it herself. There was an odd, almost eerie wisdom in the child’s words, but Elmyra learned to trust the girl’s instincts soon enough. Regardless of occasional oddities, Aerith became popular with the other children, and was quick to endear herself to most of the reputable (and occasionally disreputable) adults in the area.
It was when Aerith grew that she began to feel uncomfortable with her differences. The strange feelings nudging her a particular direction, the voice of her mother calling to her when not a soul was around… Though these happenings had been a staple in her life since birth, the young woman found it difficult to relate to any friend or acquaintance. Still, Aerith always bore a smile on her face and went to the greatest of lengths not to have it appear to bother her. If she could never be normal, she could certainly fake it with a smile. Of course, her talents were not all regarded with a sense of bitterness. It was in fact her affinity with the Force that allowed her to produce the gorgeous flowers she would sell for a living on the streets in less than ideal conditions.
It was only thanks to the crystal that she bore, amplifying her innate gifts, that she was able to elude the forces that would soon come to pursue her. Both the ShinRa company and the Sith searching for valuable materials in the sector were quick to take note of the legend passed on about the Jedi Master who had fallen possessing such a powerful artifact, the very kaiburr crystal that Aerith carried. Since that time, a search had begun for the daughter the woman left behind as there remained no record of her existence. With the heightened Sith activity in the sector, Elmyra has been pleading with her daughter to leave, to find a new life elsewhere where she will be more safe. Perhaps the Jedi Council would be able to grant her refuge. Aerith herself remained conflicted, not wanting to leave her mother behind but also feeling a sense of longing to explore more of the Galaxy and see more worlds. As things stood, with the influx of Sith activity, it seemed as though a quick escape would be for the best.
Notable Traits: Obviously, even though Aerith was never formally trained, I’d like to say that she’s developed a strong affinity for the Force power Plant Growth, as it fits perfectly with the backstory I’ve constructed for her. She doesn’t really know exactly when or how she uses it, but it’s one of the many reasons that she possesses the ability to grow beautiful flowers in the middle of an industrial city with only perhaps a plot of soil and some seeds. Though also unaware of how to channel it, she has a talent for Force Healing that she’s never had to put to practice. I would also say she’s utilized a version of Mind Trick and Force Concealment unconsciously from time to time to help her elude ShinRa, though she’s never come face to face with a Dark Jedi herself, and it’s quite doubtful her fledgling, reflexive gifts would work on one of them. The only, other notable power I can see her possessing, again, would be a somewhat unconscious affinity for would be force sense powers. Of all the powers, I would see this as the one she would be most suited for if she ever got the chance to develop her powers. She has hardly any notable talent for the darker side of the Force.
So far as combat goes, Aerith is not the galaxy’s most capable warrior. She can fend off a few, dim-witted goons with her vibrostaff, a gift from her birth mother, but her true manner of confronting a combat situation lies in talking her way out of things or slipping away into a crowd.
And Aerith Gainsborough certainly is a talker. Despite her somewhat forward and teasing nature, she has a certain charisma about her that makes her difficult to dislike no matter how shocked one might be by her boldness. It's not that she's impossible to dislike, but typically she’s a beloved character and has been known to even charm some of the harder hearts in the galaxy. If it's one thing the girl has
